Rev. Barth Chapman served as a missionary to Taiwan and the Philippines for over 30 years. During that time he has worked as an evangelist, pastor and Bible teacher. Barth speaks Mandarin Chinese and plays the piano and saxophone.  During the 1980s and 90s, he served as associate pastor and worship leader at the Abundant Life Christian Church in Tainan, Taiwan, a church that was instrumental in introducing contemporary worship to the Body of Christ in Taiwan. Barth and Janine served for six years as missionaries to the Hakka people in city of Toufen, Taiwan.   Afterwards Barth became an official missionary of the Taiwan Lutheran Church and associate pastor of the Taichung Muyi Church, a multi-branch church, where he preached, taught and served as the head of worship. Barth’s wife Janine was a corporate attorney for twenty years. During that time, she was an active participant in numerous church programs, including drama, music and teaching ministries. Janine also speaks Mandarin Chinese. She too was called by the Taiwan Lutheran Church and served as the head of pastoral ministry at the Yumen Muyi church.

Barth and Janine returned to the Buffalo, New York area in March of 2018 to help care for their elderly parents and address other family needs.   There are many ethnic Chinese both living and studying in the Buffalo area.   The Lord opened up the door for them to partner with a local Missouri Synod Lutheran Church (First Trinity Lutheran Church) to hold Mandarin Bible studies and do campus outreach.  On October 6, 2019, they began holding Mandarin Sunday worship services at the church.
